Sigma 85mm f/1.4 “A” Lens Review by Darren Miles

99 Views0 Comments Southwest Florida - Bonita Springs Based - Family, Portrait, Wedding and Real Estate Photographer. Get a GREAT deal on the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art from B&H HERE: CONCLUSION: So to wrap up this review we gave the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art series lens 46/50 and our HIGHLY RECOMMENDED RATING THE FINAL WORD: Sigma continues to disrupt the photography industry with market leading optics at value prices with their global vision line Art lenses, and so it goes with the 85 Art, it’s an optical specimen when it focusses accurately, and again, based on most of the reviews I’ve seen and read, my experience is a bit of an outlier. But based on two copies of the lens I want to believe that this was all just a strange coincidence because I haven’t had these issues on other Art lenses in the line. Let’s hope that Sigma isn’t reverting to their pre-global vision state when there were numerous quality control problems - particularly with focus accuracy… I hope not.

Uh oh. On a trip to Taranaki falls in Ruapehu, New Zealand; I pushed the Fujifilm X-T2 and Canon 7D Mark II to their weather-sealed limits. I wanted to document the walk and showcase the waterfall in the misty rain, but unfortunately the weather-sealing wasn't quite as good as I had hoped. I'm fully aware that I was pushing these to their upper limits and was doing so, so that you don't have to. Hopefully now you'll have an idea of just how much water you shouldn't expose your cameras to. I'm still incredibly psyched for the shots we got on the day and very pleased with the final outcome, but unfortunately it was at the cost of one camera breaking and the other taking a few extra days of recovery. -- Subscribe to my blog Follow me on Twitter Follow me on Instagram Like me on Facebook -- Camera Equipment: View all my gear at VLOG CAMERA UK – US – CANON UK – US – CANON LENS UK – US – FUJIFILM UK — US — FUJIFILM LENS UK — US —

What does it mean to be a professional photographer? Photography Tip

66 Views0 Comments

The title of professional photographer has nothing to do with making money. The fact that you make money does not make you a professional photographer Just because someone has a website that says they are a professional photographer, just because they have a business card that says they are professional, just because they have tons of the latest, coolest, most expensive gear, and just because they make their living with that website and business card and gear - doesn’t mean they are professional. I have met hundreds of photographers in my career who met all of these qualifications and they didn’t last very long. For some it was because their work simply wasn’t that good. For others it was because they simply sucked at running a business. Most who failed - failed because they didn’t understand this... Professional is an attitude. Professional is a behavior. Professional is a standard. Being a professional - It is the way in which you approach your work. It is the amount effort that you put into educating yourself and knowing your gear like an athlete knows theirs. It is the amount of self motivated learning that you do - not just in the beginning of your career, but throughout your entire career. It’s the amount of practice that you do to sure up and improve your techniques. It is the amount of research that you put in before you take the shot. It is the the quality standards that you maintain before during and after the shoot. Its the follow-up that you do with your clients. It is definitely the relationships that you build. And most importantly - being a professional is how you treat your subjects and clients. If you are a professional - people matter. That’s what professional is. So take this photography tip: Instead of asking someone else when and if you can call yourself a professional - go take a long look in the mirror and answer the question yourself. The photos ------------------ The first of the two final shots as it was snowing: 60mm | f2.8 | ISO400 | 1/1000sec The ISO was increased to 400 to allow me to use a very fast shutter speed and freeze the movement of the snow. The shallow depth of field provided by the large aperture also enhanced the snow. A slightly slower shutter speed to show a bit more sideways movement of the snow may also have been nice. The final shot 60mm | f9 | ISO100 | 1/20sec It may have been worthwhile increasing the ISO a touch to gain a faster shutter speed to help account for the movement caused by the wind.
